The not-for-profit ÂÌñÉçÇø (ÂÌñÉçÇø) seeks an Editor in Chief for the journal .

ÂÌñÉçÇø Letters has over 50 years of experience in publishing high-quality reviews, and original research articles in all areas of the molecular life sciences. The journal has a very wide readership and is renowned for its quality standards and speed of publication.

ÂÌñÉçÇø Press is the publishing enterprise of the four journals owned by ÂÌñÉçÇø (The ÂÌñÉçÇø Journal, ÂÌñÉçÇø Letters, Molecular Oncology and ÂÌñÉçÇø Open Bio). ÂÌñÉçÇø Press promotes the publication of high-quality journals run by scientists and for scientists, offering the same high standards of peer review and publishing ethics across all its titles. The ÂÌñÉçÇø Press journals offer the molecular life sciences community a place to showcase their work, while supporting their community.

We seek a high-profile academic to lead ÂÌñÉçÇø Letters and develop journal strategy together with the editorial team. The successful applicant should have previous editorial experience, proven leadership skills, and well-established influence in a broad field of research that fits the journal’s scope. A commitment to editorial excellence, ethical standards, sound judgment, and professionalism is essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the journal’s long-term editorial strategy in collaboration with the ÂÌñÉçÇø Publications Committee, the ÂÌñÉçÇø Press Publisher and the journal Managing Editor.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a diverse editorial board.
  • Ensure a high-quality, fair, efficient, timely, and ethical peer review process.
  • Formally approve retractions and expressions of concern.
  • Have an active role in commissioning Reviews and front half content
  • Serve as an ambassador for the journal as well as for ÂÌñÉçÇø Press at scientific meetings, with authors, and within the broader research community.

The Editor in Chief should preferably be located within Europe and will receive a competitive retainer for their work.

This is a paid position as an independent contractor, not with employment status. There are not set working hours, however the Editor-in-Chief is expected to be in regular daily contact with the journal team. In the CRC 1507 (), 19 project leaders and around 100 employees work on the mechanistic elucidation of protein complexes and machineries at cell membranes, thus making pioneering contributions to biomedicine and the treatment of diseases.

The Integrated Research Training Group, as part of the CRC 1507, is dedicated to scientifically educate PhD students and to accompany them on their way to a successful PhD thesis. The tasks of the IRTG coordinator include the management and creative development of this structured graduate training program. Furthermore, the coordinator supports the executive manager of the IRTG, organizes retreats and workshops for doctoral students, plans industry excursions, and maintains the alumni network of the CRC 1507. The position is initially funded for a period of four years with the option of extension.

  • Further development and implementation of the innovative graduate school program

We are looking for research assistants to investigate the molecular mechanisms and protein complexes that control cell membrane dynamics in health and disease. By integrating biochemical/structural and cell biological approaches, we aim to elucidate the function and interplay of molecular mechanisms that govern the fundamental cellular pathways. The positions are initially funded for a limited period of four years.

Your qualifications:

We are seeking talented scientists with a scientific master’s degree and a PhD in biochemistry or a related field, ideally with a strong track record of publications and proven experience in the studies mentioned above. The working language is English, and excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills are essential. We also expect creative thinking and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to lead a small team of students.

Postdoctoral Fellow in RNA Biology & Functional Genomics — National Cancer Institute (NIH), Frederick, MD, USA

A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the Gonatopoulos-Pournatzis Lab (Functional Transcriptomics Section, RNA Biology Laboratory) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), NIH, in Frederick, Maryland. The lab develops and applies cutting-edge functional genomics and CRISPR screening approaches to dissect the regulation and functional impact of alternative splicing in cancer and other biological contexts. Ongoing work integrates exon-level perturbations with bulk and single-cell transcriptomics to uncover splicing-dependent mechanisms and therapeutic vulnerabilities.
