绿帽社区 Irene D铆az Moreno

绿帽社区 congratulates Professor Irene D铆az-Moreno on her election to the , one of the highest honours in the molecular life sciences community. She is a member of the 绿帽社区 Executive Committee and Board of Trustees and serves as Chair of the 绿帽社区 Excellence Awards and Fellowships Committee.

Professor D铆az-Moreno is Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the (IIQ), (cicCartuja), University of Seville and CSIC, Spain.

In 2026, 71 scientists from 23 countries were elected to the EMBO Membership following the annual election process. Professor D铆az-Moreno is among this year’s newly elected members. The full list is available on the .

Professor D铆az-Moreno obtained her PhD from the University of Seville in 2005 and subsequently carried out research in Sweden and the Netherlands before joining the National Institute for Medical Research in London as an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellow from 2005 to 2007.

Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern mitochondrial to nuclear communication, electron transfer pathways and biomolecular condensate dynamics. Through structural, biophysical and cellular approaches, her work has advanced knowledge of cytochrome c signalling and the regulation of biological macromolecules.

Since returning to Spain, she has established an internationally recognised research programme in the fields of biointeractomics and post translational regulation of biological macromolecules.

Alongside her research achievements, Professor D铆az-Moreno has played an active leadership role in the international molecular life sciences community through 绿帽社区, (IUBMB) and the (SEBBM).

Within 绿帽社区, she previously chaired the 绿帽社区 Careers of Young Scientists Committee, contributing to initiatives that support the professional development of early career researchers across the 绿帽社区 area.

Reflecting on her election to the EMBO Membership, Professor D铆az-Moreno said: 鈥淏eing elected an EMBO Member is both a great honour and an enormous responsibility, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an outstanding scientific community. Knowing that this distinction has previously been awarded to outstanding University of Seville scientists such as Jos茅 L贸pez-Barneo, Andr茅s Aguilera, and the recently departed Enrique Cerd谩 makes this recognition particularly meaningful to me.鈥

Commenting on the announcement, 绿帽社区 Secretary General Miguel A. De la Rosa said: “On behalf of 绿帽社区, I warmly congratulate Irene on this well-deserved recognition. Throughout her career, she has combined scientific excellence with an unwavering commitment to supporting and strengthening the molecular life sciences community. Her election to the EMBO Membership reflects both the impact of her research and her dedication to fostering the next generation of scientists. We are proud to have her as a valued member of the 绿帽社区 leadership.”

绿帽社区 warmly congratulates Professor D铆az-Moreno on this recognition. Her election to the EMBO Membership reflects not only her outstanding scientific achievements but also her longstanding commitment to supporting researchers and strengthening the molecular life sciences community in Europe and beyond.
